Key Features

Air Situation Display software

Interfaces to Multiple ASTERIX Format Data Inputs

ASD-100 can interface to a number of different ASTERIX data inputs, including: radar video (CAT-240), plot/track reports (CAT-48), ADS-B (CAT-21), and safety alert messages (CAT-4).

Clear PPI Display with Maps and Charts

All data is presented on a large, clear PPI display, overlaid on top of user-selectable maps.

The field-proven scan converter provides smooth, flexible and accurate radar video display for up to four streams (e.g. raw/background, processed, MTI and secondary). Four track receiving channels allow primary, secondary and fused/combined tracks to be received and displayed simultaneously.

Aeronautical charts can be automatically downloaded on demand and cached locally.  Chart data includes visual flight rules (VFR) and low/high altitude route charts, which are updated every 28 days.

Intuitive Controls with Touch Screen Support

The user interface has been designed to support modern touchscreen displays, using large accessible buttons and common view controls, such as pinch-to-zoom and slide-to-pan.

Intercept vectors can be calculated and displayed, rulers can be drawn between reference points and targets, and individual tracks can be designated through fast, easy-to-use controls.

Configurable soft buttons allow the user interface to be customised to provide shortcuts or add controls for external systems.

Safety Alerts and Track Filtering

Safety alerts such as Short Term Conflict Alerts (STCA), Area Proximity Warnings (APW) and Minimum Safe Altitude Warnings (MSAW) can be received in ASTERIX CAT-4 format (eg. from SPx SafetyNet Server). A visual warning is displayed as well as a graphical representation of the conflicts while they persist.

Track filtering allows specific targets to be displayed, based on their speed and altitude, or by user-defined areas. Tracks that are providing a cooperative transponder response can be hidden to display only unverified threats.

Flight Plan Support

Create, edit and save flight plans into an internal database and match against current aircraft tracks, using their callsign or Mode 3/A code. A matched flight plan is deemed to be active and the label of the corresponding track may reflect this.

Extra Info

Integrates with SPx Software for Expanded Capabilities

SPx Server can provide ASD-100 with radar video and track reports.  It also supports tracking from IFF video, including extraction of the encoded SSR (IFF) information.

SPx Fusion Server can provide ASD-100 with a fused data stream from multiple radars and sensors.

RDR Data Recorder can provide a multi-channel data recording and replay solution for radar video, tracks, ADS-B, operator screen recording, audio and more.

TEWA  (Threat Evaluation and Weapon Assignment) can expand the capabilities of ASD-100 into a capable air defence system.

SPx SafeyNet Server:

The SPx Safety Net Server module watches the air picture in the background and warns operators of potential conflicts before they happen, with alerts shown directly in ASD-100.

This can be essential in busy or complex airspace, where a developing conflict could easily be missed on a crowded display.

The server predicts where aircraft are heading and checks for three types of hazards. Short Term Conflict Alerts warn when aircraft are likely to come too close to each other. Area Proximity Warnings flag aircraft about to enter a defined area. Minimum Safe Altitude Warnings use terrain data to spot aircraft heading too close to the ground. Warning distances, altitudes and look-ahead times are all configurable, and areas such as airfields can be excluded where aircraft are expected to fly close together or low. Comprehensive upgrade for legacy air defence processing and display systems

By combining ASD-100 with other Cambridge Pixel solutions, Air Defence Systems can be upgraded predominantly using software, making them cost-effective and future-proof. Operators can retain existing (and expensive) front-end radar hardware. Support for standard ASTERIX data provides compatibility with other systems using these formats.

Source code licensing is also available, allowing developers to extend, localise and ensure long-term support.

Real-World Application

Becker-aero selected ASD-100 as the monitoring display for a project making flying safer across a number of sites in Asia. ASD-100 was provided to receive fused reports (via SPx Fusion Server) from Becker-aero’s ADS-B receivers, and overlay them in graphical format onto dynamic aeronautical charts.
