Radar Interfacing

Cambridge Pixel and its customers have interfaced to numerous radars using the HPx range of radar interface hardware and directly via network connection.

For radars that provide analogue signal outputs (video, trigger and turning data), the highly-configurable HPx radar interface cards provide the means of physically connecting the processing system to the radar. Turning data is most commonly output in the form of ACP and ARP pulses; however, HPx cards can also support parallel azimuth data and synchro/resolver signals (via a companion PCI card).

Many modern radars provide their radar video as a network IP output. In this case Cambridge Pixel's SPx software may support the input of the network radar video data directly via Ethernet. Cambridge Pixel supports radars that output in the open ASTERIX CAT-240 format as well as selected proprietary formats.

Occasionally it may be desirable to connect a single set of analogue radar signals simultaneously to multiple processing nodes; for example, to build some redundancy into the overall system. Cambridge Pixel has some experience and capability in this area; please contact us if you have a requirement to split/buffer analogue radar signals.

Control of the radar itself is also possible in some cases, depending on the specific model. Please consult Cambridge Pixel for information about supported devices.

Below is a list of radars to which Cambridge Pixel's products have already interfaced. Please note that this is certainly not an exhaustive list and is constantly updated. If you wish to interface to a radar that is not currently on this list please let us know.

Please contact us if you don't see your particular sensor on the list above. In general, any radar providing analogue video, trigger, ACP and ARP or synchro signals may be connected via an HPx card.
